Yocoy Technologies GmbH was founded in June 2007 by Prof. Dr. Hans Uszkoreit, Dr. Feiyu Xu, Sven Schmeier and DFKI GmbH as the 50th spin-off company of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).

The vision and ultimate goal of the founders of Yocoy is to develop software that enables people to overcome language and cultural barriers. Yocoy's apps serve as language, travel, and cultural guides which enable their users to better understand other people on their travels.

The soul of the young Berlin enterprise is an international team of highly skilled specialists thoroughly trained in mobile interfaces, crosslingual/crosscultural communication and tourism information systems.

Dr. Feiyu Xu - Chief Executive Officer

Feiyu Xu has been Senior Software Engineer and Project Manager at DFKI since 1998. She studied Translation at Tongji U. Shanghai and Computational Linguistics at Saarland University In 1998 she received her MSc (Diplom) and in 2007 her PhD in Computational Linguistics at Saarland U. She has been manager of several projects for multilingual tourism applications.

Prof. Dr. Hans Uszkoreit - Chief Scientist

Hans Uszkoreit is Scientific Director at DFKI and Professor of Computational Linguistics at Saarland University. He studied Linguistics and CS at the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. in 1984. Hans Uszkoreit is a member of the European Academy of Science and of the International Committee of Computational Linguistics. He has co-founded several spin-off companies and is currrently coordinating international projects in multilingual technologies.

Sven Schmeier - Chief Technical Officer

Sven Schmeier is Senior Software Engineer and Project Manager at DFKI. He studied Computer Science at Saarland University and received his MSc (Diploma) in 1997. From 2000 to 2005, he was Senior Software Engineer and Product Manager at XtraMind in Saarbruecken. He is one of the inventors of the core patent of XtraMind. Before joining DFKI again in 2007, he was Senior Researcher at Semgine GmbH, Berlin.
